JISD School Closures
KEY DETAILS REGARDING SCHOOL POTENTIAL CLOSURES
Judson ISD (JISD) board members voted 6-1 on Feb. 9, 2026, to close three elementary schools and one middle school for the 2026-27 school year to address a $37 million budget deficit. While Millers Point Elementary is among the schools under consideration, the final list of specific campuses will be decided in upcoming meetings.
On Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., the Judson Independent School District (JISD) board discussed two middle schools Kitty Hawk and Judson Middle Schools. According to the district, it could cost approximately $45 million dollars to make repairs at Kitty Hawk and to keep Judson open, it would be approximately $70 million. No action was taken on that day. A special meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 16, 2026 at the ERC Board Room, 8205 Palisades Dr, Live Oak, Texas 78233.
targeted schools
The five elementary schools under consideration for three slots are Park Village Blended Learning Academy, Spring Meadows Elementary/Spring Meadows College Prep, Ed Franz Leadership Academy, Rolling Meadows Elementary, Miller’s Point Elementary, Candlewood Elementary, Woodlake Elementary, along with Kirby, Judson, and Kitty Hawk middle schools, to be finalized in upcoming Feb. 2026 meetings. impact
The closures are driven by a $37 million budget deficit, declining enrollment and a need to reduce facilities, saving approximately $1.5 million per elementary school, per reports from per reports from Community Impact and per reports from WOAI. The closures will result in boundary changes and potential rezoning for students.
If closed, these schools will close for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.
decision timeline
Final action on which schools will close is scheduled for a special board meeting on Feb. 24, 2026.
